Surveys aimed at identifying the 'most-most' professions are regularly conducted in different countries. For example, in 2006, American scientists compiled a ranking of the happiest professions.
It turned out that what brings Americans satisfaction from work is far from high salary, power, or status. Much more important is the opportunity to engage in creative work, teaching, and saving people. It is creative workers, teachers, and rescuers—that is, representatives of not the highest-paid professions—who called themselves the happiest employees. The first in the ranking of happy professions were clergy. 87% of representatives of this profession admitted that work brings them satisfaction. In second place were firefighters (80%). The third line of the ranking went to physiotherapists (78%). They are followed by writers (74%), teachers engaged in special, correctional education for the mentally retarded and disabled (70%), educational administrators (68%), painters and sculptors (67%), and psychologists (67%).
At the bottom of the ranking of professional happiness were representatives of professions that the vast majority of citizens both in our country and in the USA consider the highest paid. These are economists, lawyers, middle and senior managers. Only 65% of them are satisfied with their work.
A similar survey in 2006 in Russia was conducted by the All-Russian Center for the Study of Public Opinion (VTsIOM). Russians consider the profession of lawyer the most prestigious. 28% of respondents think so, 23% consider this profession the most profitable. In second and third place among the most prestigious were the professions of economist and financier. 12% and 14% consider the work of an economist and bank employee the highest paid. Medicine was noted as a prestigious field by 11%.
Meanwhile, in the West, completely different professions are among the most prestigious and highly paid. In first place, according to Forbes, is the profession of risk insurance analyst; he can get a salary of $65,000 per year at the very beginning of his career. The profession of bank investment analyst is in second place - such an employee receives from $60,000 per year plus a bonus of $10,000. Third place is the analyst of banking operations and sales. He receives from $45,000 to $55,000 per year and up to $30,000 in annual bonus. Consultant analyst receives from $55,000 and a $5,000 bonus per year. This profession is in fourth place. Engineer and computer technology developer is in fifth place (in companies such as Google, Microsoft, Hewlett-Packard, IBM, he receives from $45,000 to $85,000). In 6th place is a researcher in biotechnology or pharmaceuticals. In 7th - accountant, in 8th - analyst at the State Department. The 9th line among the most prestigious is occupied by the profession of director's assistant in advertising and PR, the 10th - bank researcher. In 11th place in the USA is the profession of teacher with a salary of $21,000-41,000.
