Most popular landmarks named

The magazine Forbes together with the non-profit organization World Monuments Fund compiled a list of the most visited landmarks in the world, which millions of tourists from around the world come to see every year.

First on this list is the Indian mausoleum Taj Mahal, built in the 17th century. India's most famous building is located in the city of Agra. The mausoleum was recently recognized as one of the eight new wonders of the world. The entrance fee for tourists is about $5.

Next on the list are the Athenian Acropolis and the Parthenon – a temple erected in honor of the goddess Athena in 447-438 BC. On certain days, free admission is possible, and the full ticket price is €12. In third place is Ethiopia's Lalibela, a complex of churches hewn out of the mountain. The structure is about 800 years old.

The list also includes the Lincoln Memorial in Washington, the Moscow Kremlin, the Statue of Liberty in New York, the Great Wall of China, the Palace of Versailles in France, Stonehenge in the UK, and Machu Picchu in Peru.
