Under the new rules, smoking is now prohibited in Taiwan in offices, shops, restaurants, cafes, cinemas, airports, and train stations. In workplaces, smoking is not allowed if there are at least three people present. Violators face a fine of 2,000 to 10,000 Taiwan dollars ($60–300).
Since January 8, all news anchors on local television have been wearing anti-smoking badges in support of the ban. In addition, many taxi drivers in Taipei have put stickers in their cars prohibiting passengers from smoking during the ride.
