Umbrellas and tripods banned at Beijing Olympics
"Our main task is ensuring safety<\/a> and comfort for participants, guests and spectators of the upcoming Olympics, and in this regard the organizing committee has published a list of items prohibited from being brought into stadiums, as well as rules of conduct for spectators," quotes the organizing committee representative as cited by RIA Novosti.<\/p>
The rules of conduct at stadiums, which will be in effect from August 1 to September 17, contain a list of 22 prohibited items and four 'undesirable behavioral patterns'. In particular, according to organizers, opening umbrellas in the 'seated' area of the stadium is forbidden. 'The use of umbrellas in summer is widespread among our residents for protection from the sun, so we warn spectators that opening them interferes with other spectators,' say the organizers. As an alternative, spectators are advised to actively use sunscreens.<\/p>
Among the prohibited items, in addition to obviously dangerous explosives, flammable materials, sharp objects, and weapons, the organizers included umbrella canes, bags that the owner cannot place on their seat, and tripods for photo and video equipment. It is strictly forbidden to bring professional video equipment into competition venues without permission to shoot or broadcast.<\/p>
It is forbidden to bring food, drinks, bicycles, roller skates, and other non-mechanical means of transportation except wheelchairs, as well as to bring animals other than guide dogs.<\/p>
