According to research, it is ground transport, not industrial waste or energy emissions, that is the main polluter of the environment. Reducing the maximum permitted speed will result in lower fuel consumption and a reduction in toxic emissions.
Compared to a speed of 150 km/h, at 120 km/h the volume of carbon dioxide emissions into the atmosphere is reduced by 6%. That is why, ITAR-TASS notes, this decision was actively supported by representatives of environmental organizations.
