Recently, the police have been literally flooded with complaints from citizens and tourists whose pockets were brazenly emptied by criminals. The highest number of incidents occurred on Republic Street, the main street of Valletta, and most often pickpockets successfully robbed their victims at the McDonalds restaurant located on that street. Over the past week alone, several such cases have been registered, and all either in the queue at the cash register or immediately after payment. In all cases, the victims of the pickpockets were women. The thief has not been found, despite the fact that the restaurant management provided the police with footage from the internal security camera, which records everything that happens near the cash registers. A few more pickpocketing incidents have been noted in recent days at other establishments on Republic Street.
