The technology for combating fraud identified 31,334 exact duplicates, which were then excluded from the pool of valid applications. Another 5,221 applications were excluded using facial recognition and data mining software.
Lottery participants who become winners as a result of random selection will be notified by the Consular Center of the Department of State in Kentucky. No other organization or company is authorized by the Department of State to notify visa lottery participants of their win.
Notifications of winning numbers will be sent to winners only by mail from May to July 2005 and will contain further instructions, including information on fees related to immigration to the United States.
