Global tourism expects temporary downturn

Russia, meanwhile, turned out to be the most dynamic supplier of tourists: the number of tourists from Russia to Europe grew by 16%. The tourist flow from Spain also grew actively.

At the same time, according to forecasts from the World Travel and Tourism Council (WTTC), the growth rate of the global tourism industry in 2008 will slow somewhat. Global tourism growth in 2008 will be 3% compared to 3.9% in 2007, with total turnover of the global tourism industry reaching $8 trillion. Then, after a slight downturn in 2008, WTTC forecasts steady tourism growth for the period from 2009 to 2018, averaging 4.4% per year. According to Interfax, this dynamics will support 297 million jobs and 10.5% of global GDP.
