According to the head of the foreign policy agency, the Center has been opened in Kyiv, and its branches will operate in Ukraine's diplomatic and consular missions in countries with the largest numbers of Ukrainian labor migrants. Center branches will also be opened at Ukraine's Foreign Ministry offices in the regions, in particular in Lviv and Uzhhorod.
Borys Tarasyuk noted that protecting Ukrainians abroad is one of the Foreign Ministry's main tasks for this year. The Center will focus on assisting citizens who work abroad temporarily, regardless of their status – legal or illegal, the Foreign Ministry head emphasized. According to him, by various estimates, between 3 and 7 million Ukrainian citizens currently work abroad.
Deputy Foreign Minister Valentyn Nalyvaichenko noted that the center's main task will be to continue diplomatic and consular protection of Ukrainian citizens abroad. He stressed that Ukrainians' status will not be taken into account. In addition, the Center will provide legal and advocacy protection to Ukrainian citizens.
As Interfax-Ukraine reports, the Foreign Ministry developed the concept for the Center for Assistance to Ukrainians Abroad in line with the government's program to protect the rights and interests of Ukrainian citizens abroad.
