As stated by UIA Vice President for Route Network Development Sergey Martynyuk, taking into account the decision announced in July by Swiss International Air Lines to cease its direct flights between Kyiv and Zurich as of October 26 and to close the airline's office in Kyiv due to a review of its route network, UIA plans to increase the number of its flights from three to five per week in order to satisfy the market and the needs of business passengers and tourists, including transit passengers. Currently, the company is developing a new optimal flight schedule for the Kyiv - Zurich - Kyiv route.
As the vice president stated, UIA's management does not consider it possible to comment on Swiss International Air Lines' decision, but expresses hope that, having strengthened its positions on European and transcontinental markets, Swiss International Air Lines will resume operations in Ukraine in a few years. He also emphasized that commercial cooperation with the Swiss carrier does not cease, and the airlines will continue to jointly operate the route to Zurich on UIA aircraft.
Today UIA operates three direct flights per week on the Kyiv - Zurich route, and Swiss International Air Lines operates five. According to UIA, passenger traffic on the Kyiv - Zurich - Kyiv route last year amounted to more than 45,000 people, and over the first five months of this year - 23,000.
