The signing of a cooperation agreement between the national carriers will take place on June 13, 2004. The agreement implies the joint operation of MAU's new direct flight Kyiv - Kuwait - Kyiv and opens up opportunities for both airlines to expand their route networks by utilizing the partner's destinations.

The new nonstop regular flight, which for the first time will directly connect Ukraine and Kuwait, will operate twice a week (on Wednesdays and Sundays) on a Boeing-737 aircraft. A significant portion of passenger traffic on the new route is transfer passengers. The new flight will operate at night, providing convenient connections to all of MAU's morning flights from Kyiv to European destinations, as well as to CIS cities. In turn, the well-structured schedule offers excellent connections from Kuwait to the Persian Gulf countries and Asia.

"A preliminary analysis of bookings shows great interest in Ukraine on the Kuwaiti market," noted MAU's First Vice President Yuri Miroshnikov. "Unfortunately, in our country little is known about Kuwait as a tourist destination as yet, although its development certainly has great potential."

Kuwait City is the capital of the small Middle Eastern state of Kuwait, with a total area of 17.8 thousand square kilometers, located in the northeastern part of the Arabian Peninsula. To the north and northwest, Kuwait borders Iraq, to the south and southwest - Saudi Arabia, and to the east it is washed by the waters of the Persian Gulf. The country's population is about 2 million people, 45% are indigenous residents.

Ukraine International Airlines is the leader in the Ukrainian international transportation market. The company was founded in 1992. The shareholders of CJSC MAU are: the State Property Fund of Ukraine - 61.6%, Austrian Airlines - 22.5%, debis AerFinance - 6%, and the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) - 9.9%. MAU is one of the first enterprises in Ukraine with foreign capital involvement. This airline was the first in the CIS to operate new Western-built aircraft - the Boeing-737. MAU connects Ukraine with the largest cities in Europe, with three thousand points around the world, operating more than 160 regular flights per week. Today, MAU's commercial network covers 70 countries worldwide, and the airline has its own offices in more than 40 cities both in Ukraine and abroad. MAU is the only airline in the country holding the JAR-145 certificate from competent European aviation authorities for the full cycle of independent maintenance of Boeing aircraft. In 2003, according to a survey of IATA agencies in Ukraine, MAU took first place in the categories of "best Ukrainian airline" and "most sold airline".
