Today, quite creative refrigerator magnets are available for collectors
Flat and three-dimensional, flexible and hard, acrylic, resin, roll-up, and, to be brief, bright and beautiful refrigerator magnets have long become a part of our kitchen interior, filling it with positive originality. Today they not only help keep notes in the most visible place, but also play a significant role in the advertising of any business.
The first person to come up with such an original way to attach light objects to a metal surface almost 60 years ago was a certain citizen named John Wheatley. 16 years later, namely in 1974, another enterprising person – a native of America – William Zimmerman invented and patented the production of small and colorful magnets for refrigerators and other metal household appliances. The idea of their use resonated with ordinary Americans and went, so to speak, out into the world.
From a historical perspective, in recent times, souvenir magnets have been increasingly modified, undergoing various metamorphoses. And now, besides plain and cheap magnets, you can even get an exclusive designer magnet. What have the restless design minds not combined this essentially simple object with: with clocks, photo frames, calendars, and thermometers. Moreover, today magnets can not only attach notes for household members, but also compose messages directly from magnetized letters and words.
And the rapid development of nanotechnology, which has recently been gaining dizzying momentum, has led scientists to the idea of creating magnetic gadgets – specific digital devices equipped with magnetic mounts. This wonder magnet will be endowed with the ability to transmit text and voice messages, can compile a list of necessary products for purchase, and even calculate the energy value of these very products or already prepared dishes.
Today, through free souvenir magnets, many companies successfully conduct advertising campaigns for their goods and services. Moreover, the popularity of souvenir magnets has led to the development of a new branch of collecting, which has been named memomagnetics.
