Vancouver is located in the northwestern Canadian province of British Columbia on the shores of the Pacific Ocean. Following the Canadian city, the top ten also includes Melbourne (Australia), Vienna (Austria), Geneva (Switzerland), Perth (Australia), Adelaide (Australia), Sydney (Australia), Zurich (Switzerland), Toronto (Canada) and Calgary (Canada).
According to experts, the fact that the top spots are mainly occupied by Canadian, Australian and Swiss cities is no coincidence. On the international stage, these countries pursue a fairly neutral policy and are not targets for terrorist attacks. Recall that personal safety and the threat of terrorism are one of the most important categories in determining the best place to live. "In the current conditions of political instability in the world, it is not surprising that the most desirable cities to live in are those where the threat of terrorism is minimal," the EIU group study notes.
Apparently, it is no coincidence that at the very end of the list are cities from countries where the political situation is currently unstable or where rather odious regimes rule. So, the ten worst places to live include Tehran (Iran), Douala (Cameroon), Harare (Zimbabwe), Abidjan (Côte d'Ivoire), Phnom Penh (Cambodia), Lagos (Nigeria), Karachi (Pakistan), Dhaka (Bangladesh), Algiers (Algeria) and Port Moresby (Papua New Guinea).
Moscow and St. Petersburg, as well as cities of the former Soviet Union, took places in the middle of the list. Also in the center are localities of Latin America and Southeast Asia. As for the cities that follow immediately after the top ten, they include, as in last year's study, Helsinki (Finland), Frankfurt (Germany), Stockholm (Sweden), Manchester (UK) and Tokyo (Japan). New York, Paris and London, although they received high ratings in the categories of infrastructure, public transportation and quality of services and comfort, due to the threat of terrorism are only in the third ten of the list of the best cities in the world.
