Another reason for the festival's cancellation, according to the show's organizers, are difficulties arising from the fact that repair work on a section of railway tracks leading to the city had not been completed in time. Thus, some techno fans wishing to take part in the 'Parade of Love' will be unable to reach the festival venue.
Representatives of the Love Parade organizing committee stated that over the past few years the number of people wanting to attend the show has increased significantly. A record attendance was set at the 2008 festival: 1.6 million people from all over the world took part in the parade. In 1998, the event attracted 800,000 participants.
The first Love Parade took place on July 14, 1989 in Berlin, when 150 people gathered to express their love for rave music. Until 2003, the event was held regularly, but in 2004 and 2005 it was cancelled. From 2006, it was decided to move the Love Parade from the German capital to the Ruhr region.
