Liposuction in Questions and Answers

At the same time, like any plastic surgery, liposuction raises many questions and concerns. Here are some of the questions most frequently asked at plastic surgery clinics.

– Can plastic surgery replace diets and physical exercise?

Liposuction eliminates so-called stubborn fat deposits that are difficult or impossible to affect with diets and physical exercise. These include fat deposits on the inner thighs, lower abdomen, buttocks, and the saddlebag area. These fat deposits typically remain after a weight loss program consisting of fitness and diet. In this case, liposuction is used as a final stage of body contouring. Thus, plastic surgery is a complementary method, not a replacement for physical exercise and diet. And it is in this capacity that it is indispensable.

– Can liposuction be used to get rid of excess weight?

– Liposuction only removes local subcutaneous fat deposits and is intended for body contouring. The mass of such deposits is insignificant compared to total body weight, so plastic surgery cannot eliminate excess weight. It can serve as an ideal supplement, but not a replacement for diet correction and fitness. Moreover, excess weight may be associated with endocrine disorders that require diagnosis and adequate treatment and represent a medical problem.

– Can liposuction trigger accelerated fat formation after surgery?

– Plastic surgery means removal of fat deposits, given that the number of fat cells remains unchanged throughout life after reaching sexual maturity. Thus, in quantitative terms, liposuction not only does not contribute to obesity, but on the contrary, removes fat cells once and for all.

However, the size of fat cells can increase, hence excess fat. Its appearance always has specific causes, and if these causes are not eliminated and persist after surgery, excess fat will inevitably continue to form, and precisely in those places where plastic surgery was not performed.

This is explained by the fact that in the areas where surgery was performed, they simply cannot form. Hence the persistent belief that liposuction provokes fat deposit formation in other areas of the body. In reality, plastic surgery does not affect the processes of fat deposit formation; it can only locally eliminate their results.

– Is it true that after liposuction noticeable marks remain on the body?

– Since liposuction is performed without incisions in the skin, through punctures using thin cannulas, practically no marks remain on the skin after it.

– Is liposuction associated with soft tissue trauma and how serious are such injuries?

– Liposuction is performed using blunt cannulas, which minimizes the risk of damage to muscle, nerve tissue, and blood vessels. Modern techniques make this operation almost completely safe.

– Is it true that a long rehabilitation period is required after liposuction?

– That is not true. Within a few days after liposuction, you can return to normal life. This type of surgical intervention is minimally invasive, performed on an outpatient basis, and does not require hospitalization.

– What types of liposuction exist?

– Depending on the method of liquefying fat tissue, liposuction can be ultrasonic, laser, or using Klein's solution, and depending on the area of surgery, there are liposuction of the abdomen, thighs, chin, etc.

– What are the contraindications to liposuction?

– Contraindications to liposuction are oncological diseases, decompensated diabetes mellitus, allergic diseases, serious pathologies of the cardiovascular, respiratory, and genitourinary systems, as well as acute inflammatory diseases.
