Owners of cigarettes without such marking will be fined 500 Singapore dollars ($345) per pack.
Tourists bringing cigarettes for personal use will have to pay a customs duty of 7.04 Singapore dollars ($5) per pack and then keep the customs receipt. In Singapore itself, the price of a legal pack of cigarettes starts from 12 Singapore dollars ($8). However, up to 20% of cigarettes consumed in the country are illegally imported and sold much cheaper.
The new law, like the high price of legal cigarettes, among other things, aims to reduce the number of smokers. As Travel.ru notes, smoking is banned in almost all public places in the country, including bars and entertainment venues.
