This coast is considered an elite holiday corner for wealthy and respectable citizens who can afford high prices for housing and entertainment. It is no coincidence that this resort region has been called the European California. Every year, about 10 million tourists from Western Europe, the USA, China, and Russia come to these places.
The name of the coast, which translates to 'Coast of the Sun' in Russian, emphasizes the unique climatic conditions in the region. These places have more than 320 sunny days a year, with an average annual temperature of 19 degrees Celsius. The hottest month is August (temperature +29 degrees) and the coldest is January (average temperature – 6.5 degrees). The climate of the region is subtropical Mediterranean, and thanks to the Cordillera Betica mountain system, which protects the coast from continental influence, it provides a unique microclimate of the region.
The main attractions of Costa del Sol can be divided into several groups:
• Marine attractions. On Costa del Sol there are many seaside resorts: Estepona, Velez-Malaga, Benalmadena, Fuengirola, Marbella and Mijas with numerous water parks, yacht marinas and famous golf clubs.
• Architectural attractions. The cities of the province conceal many architectural masterpieces that can impress even the most demanding tourists. Just consider Seville and Granada with their majestic castles, temples and other structures from the Middle Ages.
• Mountain attractions. The province of Malaga is not only a territory for sea recreation. The presence of a mountain system determined the development of ski resorts, for example the famous mountain resort – Sierra Nevada – an excellent place for mountain walks and other types of recreation.
Marbella – the pearl of the Costa del Sol coast
Particularly popular among the powerful of this world is the resort city of Marbella, which can rightly be called the pearl of Costa del Sol.
