Three times more Jews moved to Israel from Ukraine in 2014 than a year earlier
As Interfax-Ukraine reports citing Forumdaily, the American-Israeli fund Keren LeYedidut decided to pay additional cash benefits to new repatriates from Ukraine, on top of the mandatory state payment upon repatriation. Thus, an adult repatriate receives an additional allowance of $1,000, and a child receives $500.
The publication also provides statistics from the Ministry of Aliyah and Absorption for 2014. According to updated data, 5,138 repatriates from Ukraine arrived in Israel this year (498 from Kyiv, 498 from Odesa, 545 from Donetsk, 318 from Kharkiv, and 283 from Dnepropetrovsk). "This is almost three times the number of repatriates who came from this country in 2013," writes Forumdaily.
In Israel, new repatriates who arrived in 2014 from Ukraine preferred to settle in Haifa (666 people), Netanya (394), Bat Yam (327), Ashdod (299), and Jerusalem (182 people).
According to the Ministry of Aliyah and Absorption, by the end of December, another 200 new repatriates from Ukraine are expected to arrive with the support of the Jewish Agency, the public youth organization Ezra, and the Nativ office.
