To avoid ending up in the same situation, it makes sense to figure out in advance what you can expect with your resume. Gazeta.Ru analyzed the state of the foreign labor market and advises where to go with your profession.
IT Sector
Every year, governments of various countries publish lists of professions in demand for migrants. For instance, IT professionals should take a closer look at Australia. They need systems analysts, software developers, and software engineers. On average, an IT specialist earns 8,000 Australian dollars per month.
To relocate for permanent residence in Australia, a migrant must work in one of the professions listed in the SOL (Skilled Occupation List, published on the official website of the Department of Immigration and Border Protection of Australia). Here, the chances for computer geniuses to obtain residency significantly increase – the IT sector holds leading positions in the list of professions.
The second option is China. In the PRC, the IT sector is one of the fastest growing in the world; local industry giants actively attract foreigners, including for entering new markets. A Java developer with at least four years of experience can expect an average annual income of $29,000-$56,000, a systems architect with seven years of experience – $49,000-$128,000, and a senior IT manager – $88,000-$128,000 per year (required work experience – at least ten years).
In third place is Canada. The average salary for a programmer here is $3,000-$5,000 per month. An immigration candidate is evaluated on a points-based rating scale awarded for skills, work experience, and so on. The highest points a potential migrant can get for a job offer, qualifications, and experience.
By the way, Canada has the Express Entry program. On the online service, you can find open vacancies, go through an interview, and if the Canadian boss approves you, the program will send the future employee's data directly to the immigration ministry, so you can get a job even before moving to the country.
Healthcare
Medical workers are much needed in Germany. The average salary for doctors at a large enterprise is 66,800 euros per year. At the initial career stage, an assistant can expect 2,000 euros per month, a veterinarian – 3,800, and a dentist – 4,400 euros. But there is one nuance: Germany has a law on the procedure for obtaining work permits for foreigners, so your medical education must correspond to the equivalent German one, and language proficiency must be considered fluent.
In Australia, medical-related professions are also in demand – they are represented in the SOL. They are waiting for dental hygienists, prosthetists, therapists, dental technicians, otolaryngologists, and orthopedists. However, you need both the appropriate education and language skills, and you will also have to pass a medical exam consisting of two parts.
The theoretical part can be taken outside the country, but for the second part you will have to fly to Australia. Overall, the Australian government is interested in migrants. According to Chief Director of Immigration Law Yusef Haddad, as long as a migrant has skills and qualifications that can contribute to the Australian labor market, the question of where they came from remains secondary. Thus, out of 190,000 available migration places, 128,550 were allocated for skilled migrants.
There is also a shortage of qualified specialists in Denmark. The government is currently interested in therapists, dentists, residents, and consultant physicians. Employment requires a master's degree and a Danish license. The average annual salary of a general practitioner is 109,000 euros.
Engineering Specialties
In New Zealand, according to the Long Term Skill Shortage List, the following are in demand: technology engineers, mechanical engineers, electrical engineers, petroleum engineers, and environmental engineers. Also required are structural design engineers and industrial equipment engineers. The average annual salary for a starting engineer is from 40,000 to 80,000 New Zealand dollars.
The Australian government is also interested in engineers. Preference is given to mining engineers (excluding oil and gas), petroleum engineers, and environmental engineers. In mechanical engineering, specialists in electrical engineering, electronics, and mechanical engineering are needed. The average annual salary is about 40,000 Australian dollars.
This specialty is also on the list of most in-demand professions in Germany. The government is waiting for specialists in mechanical engineering and design of optoelectronic systems, electrical engineers and technicians in lightning protection. Monthly salary is from 4,000-6,000 euros depending on the field.
Manual Workers
Skilled hands are never superfluous anywhere. You can participate in seasonal agricultural work (for example, grape harvesting) in France, where you can earn up to 2,000 euros per month. In the Netherlands, you can work in greenhouses and in tulip picking and packing, with a salary starting from 1,500 euros per month.
Builders can safely move to Germany. They need tilers, installers, bricklayers, and interior finishing specialists. Salary is about 2,000 euros; in Sweden, similar work can earn 3,000 euros.
The most common profession – waiter – is available in almost all countries, and the income of restaurant service workers depends on the number of hours worked and the generosity of guests.
