In fact, 'motorboat' is a general name for small watercraft. There are rescue, passenger, tourist, cargo, patrol, missile, and other types of motorboats. Most people associate this word with a small motorized boat or a light, compact vessel. Today we will talk about those motorboats that are best suited for groups of 2-8 people. Perhaps you know that on the water they are called 'cruisers'.
You can often see such motorboats in St. Petersburg – they give rides to people on the Neva River. The length of such vessels is from 6.5 to 10 meters, the number of cabins is one or one and a half. Sometimes cruisers are also called 'family cruisers', because they are very convenient for long trips, and some members of our club even live in them (!) – but only in the summer season.
Depending on layout and architectural solutions, cruisers can be divided into several basic types:
Sedan. Traditional layout of a cruiser, with a fully glazed cabin. Depending on the design of its roof, sedans can also be divided into Flybridge and Coype. The former have a helm station on the roof, which provides excellent control of the vessel and a great view. The latter have sliding skylights in the cabin roof, which is also very convenient, especially at night.
Sport cruiser. – a small and convenient motorboat. Some models are so small that you can easily buy a car trailer and carry such a cruiser to the river on it. Moreover, as the name implies, they develop decent speed. The only drawback is capacity. More than 2-3 people won't fit into a Sport cruiser model. Although inside this single-deck model, as a rule, there are all amenities: a full salon, galley, and toilet. The cockpit deck in such a motorboat is slightly raised, and under it you can find a half-cabin with a small but usually double berth.
Express cruiser – something between sedans and sport cruisers. Its superstructure is much less pronounced than that of a normal sedan, but it is not recessed into the deck as in Sport cruiser models. Overall, this combined option is not as popular as the previous two.
Touring boat – large motorboats designed for long and extended trips, river rafting, etc. They are direct relatives of large trawler yachts, and conditions on board are quite comfortable. However, transporting such a motorboat is quite difficult: it is very bulky. This cruiser is common in Europe, but has not yet found its buyer here.
