University of Toronto ranks 20th in the world university ranking
The report notes that Canadians are the most educated nation in the world, as on average each Canadian has more degrees than anywhere else. Toronto is the main educational center of Canada, where the country's best universities are concentrated.
Toronto has three major universities, each with a good reputation. First, the University of Toronto, which ranks 20th in the world university ranking. Then there is York University, which includes the world-class Schulich School of Business. Finally, there is Ryerson University, which is rapidly gaining a reputation.
Overall, Toronto's universities offer the largest selection of courses and specialties of any city in the world.
Besides Toronto, another Canadian city, Montreal, also made the ranking, attractive to students primarily for its atmosphere, including nightlife, shops, and a relaxed vibe. Another Canadian city, Vancouver, took 12th place.
First place in the ranking went to Paris, which is noted for its quality of education. It is followed by Melbourne (Australia), London (UK), Sydney (Australia), Hong Kong, Boston (USA), and Tokyo (Japan). 8th and 9th places are taken by Montreal and Toronto respectively. Seoul (Korea) rounds out the top ten.
Surprisingly, only one American city made the top list – Boston, which is home to the most famous universities, Harvard University and the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT). Other American cities that ranked in the list did not make the top ten. San Francisco ranked 13th, New York ranked 17th, Chicago came in 18th. Los Angeles was placed 31st, and Philadelphia and Washington were 41st and 42nd respectively.
Among Russian cities, only Moscow made the list, taking 43rd place.
The publication 'Russian Toronto' notes that the report missed another detail worth mentioning. Unlike many countries, education obtained in Canada in most cases provides the opportunity to obtain permanent resident status, which soon leads to citizenship.
This attracts many international students to study in Canada, and their numbers in Canadian universities are growing. Incidentally, one of the factors that moved Toronto up in the ranking from 13th to 9th is the widest geographic representation of students. This is well deserved, as Toronto is considered the most ethnically diverse city in the world.
Currently, the Canadian immigration system is primarily focused on graduates of Canadian educational institutions. For this reason, interest in studying at Canadian universities and colleges is on the rise, which is evident even in the expansion of campuses. In particular, all three Toronto universities are constantly acquiring new buildings, and the infrastructure is improving.
Finally, tuition at Canadian universities is significantly cheaper than at US universities. At the same time, it should be noted that the American job market is wide open for graduates of Canadian universities, unlike graduates from other countries. Not to mention that Canada is currently one of the most stable and rapidly developing economies among developed countries, so the Canadian job market itself offers good employment opportunities.
