What myths surround phlebologists

What myths surround phlebologists

Myth one. Phlebology is for those with extremely severe forms of vein disease. In fact, at any change in veins or capillaries (spider veins, reticular veins, just little threads) you should immediately make an appointment with a phlebologist. Only a specialist can determine the cause (not the consequence) of vein changes and prescribe the optimal course of treatment.

Myth two. You need to go to a phlebology center as soon as you notice a reticular vein or spider vein. Here, the situation is somewhat exaggerated. Of course, you should not delay a visit to the doctor under any circumstances, but you don't have to rush the minute you see capillaries appearing. It is better to try to adjust your life schedule a couple of months ahead so that no circumstances interfere with a full examination and treatment (for example, planned business trips, long-awaited vacation, trip to friends, and so on).

Myth three. It is not necessary to treat spider veins and reticular veins; they can simply be removed with a laser and forgotten forever. In this case, we have two misconceptions at once. Removing and treating are different actions, but sometimes removal is a form of treatment (removal of an inflamed appendix, for example). In this case, it must be remembered that the visual manifestation of veins and capillaries is a consequence of some disease or hormonal imbalance in the body, so by removing a reticular vein or spider vein, you are not cured, you do not get rid of the cause, you only mask the consequences.

Therefore, by removing the spider vein and not the cause of its appearance, you risk becoming its owner again. Therefore, we strongly recommend first visiting a phlebology center, identifying the causes (i.e., diagnosing the vein disease), and only then making a decision – to remove or treat.

Myth four. Veins can be treated by a regular surgeon. Until recently, that was indeed the case, but today a separate branch of medicine – phlebology – deals with the problem of blood veins, so when complaints about veins and vessels appear, you should contact phlebologists.
