Last year, 2.5 million Ukrainians traveled abroad for tourist purposes, of which 270 thousand were sent by travel agencies, which is 35% more than in 2002. This was reported by Anatoliy Matviyenko, First Deputy Chairman of the State Tourism Administration.
The number of citizens who traveled abroad for tourist purposes increased by 2-2.5%, while the number of tourists who preferred to vacation in Ukraine increased by 25-27%. Tourists prefer domestic tourism for several reasons. Among them are the introduction of visas by Slovakia and Poland, the high cost of visas in many countries, as well as the improved level of service at Ukrainian resorts.
According to Matviyenko's forecasts, in the current winter season, tour operators who bet on domestic tourism will win, primarily on the Crimean resorts and the Carpathians. Also, Egypt and Turkey will remain popular among tourists this season.
