Types of Car Alarms: Operating Principle and Varieties

Modern security systems for cars are distinguished by convenience and reliability

How does a car alarm work?

The security mechanism is used to prevent the possibility of unauthorized persons entering the cabin, trunk, or under the hood, to report technical impact on the structural elements of the vehicle, and to impede evacuation. The alarm notification system triggers a loud siren and the vehicle's exterior lighting to attract the attention of others and scare off intruders.

In some cases, the car alarm can work together with an immobilizer. Such a protective device blocks the engine when attempting to use a different key in the ignition switch.

Depending on the type of construction and technical features, an automotive alarm performs the following functions: activating the security system, remote engine start, closing and locking windows, and monitoring the vehicle's automatic systems.

Modern technologies allow transmitting notifications about the vehicle's status via a smartphone in the case of installing a two-way version of the device.

Main types of car alarms

Depending on the installation features, car alarms can be factory-installed or aftermarket. In the first case, the system is integrated by the vehicle manufacturer; in the second, the device is installed additionally after purchasing the car.

A standard factory alarm provides only a basic security function. If it is necessary to equip the car alarm with additional capabilities, a special security device is used.

Such equipment includes two-way alarms as well as satellite models of devices. For ease of use, an interactive LCD display located on the key fob is used; the system allows real-time control of some vehicle functions. The satellite model can transmit data about the vehicle's location and any encroachments on your property.

Modern car alarms provide a high level of vehicle safety, protection against intruder actions, and contribute to simplicity and convenience in using the car.
