Tourists usually start their walk around Kyiv from Maidan Nezalezhnosti
There are places in the city that are its calling card, and where a tourist should go first. Only they will be different for everyone. But before the walk, it is worth deciding on accommodation in advance. Most tourists go for a walk along the main street of the city – Khreshchatyk. The street is built up with monumental buildings from the Stalin era. It connects European Square with Bessarabska Square, where the colorful market of the same name is located. Khreshchatyk also crosses the famous Maidan Nezalezhnosti Square. Many events that played a significant role in the history of the country took place on the latter.
Next to European Square is Khreshchatyi Park, which directly adjoins the Dnipro embankment. Here stands the famous "Kyiv Rainbow". It looks especially attractive at night, illuminated by multicolored lights. Nearby begins the ascent to Volodymyrska Hill, where a monument to Prince Volodymyr – the Baptizer of Rus' – is installed.
Kyiv is also the cradle of Orthodoxy and a pilgrimage center. Thousands of believers flock here every year, wishing to visit the Kyiv Pechersk Lavra, see St. Sophia's and St. Volodymyr's Cathedrals, and stand under the domes of St. Andrew's Church.
Not far from the Kyiv Pechersk Lavra is the Motherland Monument, which locals affectionately call "Lavrentievna". The statue rises above the river surface to a height of 102 meters. At its foot is the National Museum of the History of Ukraine in the Second World War. Those who wish can climb to the observation decks located on the pedestal and at the feet or on the head of the statue. You can view the city from 36 and 90 meters, respectively.
There is also a place for entertainment in the city. In the village of Pyrohovo, guests will immerse themselves in the life of a Ukrainian village. Lovers of modern entertainment will find a hydropark on the banks of the Dnipro. There is everything for relaxation after long walks around the city – beaches, cafes, exercise machines, tennis courts, and numerous nightclubs. For curious but always hurried travelers, the museum "Kyiv in Miniature" opens its doors. Here, in a short time, you can get acquainted with copies of the most famous attractions of the city.
It is difficult to tell about a city with a centuries-old history in a few words. Kyiv must be seen, feel the breadth and spaciousness of the streets, the magnificence of the Dnipro, and the age-old traditions of the Orthodox capital of Kyivan Rus'.
