How to Properly Rent a Car in Italy

Nowadays, it is very fashionable to plan your vacation on your own. That is why the services of companies engaged in such a business as car rental have become more in demand. Every third tourist who comes on vacation to Italy, Spain or Croatia prefers to rent a car. There are two main ways to do this.

The first way is to book a car in advance through a travel agency or a trusted online resource. For example, you can use the services of websites of companies offering car rental – such as www.prokatauto.ru, www.proprokat.ru, www.avtomaxi.ru. There is another way – to rent a car directly in the country you have chosen for your vacation. To do this, you also need to contact local companies engaged in such activities as car rental.

Any car rental abroad, including in Italy, requires an international driver's license. Other licenses issued outside the country, including those in the Russian Federation, are also valid. However, renting a car in Italy will only be possible if your first and last name are written in the license in Latin letters. By the way, unlike many other European countries, driving experience is not required in Italy.

To ensure that car rental does not result in additional financial expenses for you, it is necessary to immediately clarify the total cost of the rental and what it includes. There are common cases where the price does not include car insurance, and you will be obliged to take it out directly in Italy from a partner company representative. It is also worth paying attention to the condition of the car offered to you. As a rule, self-respecting companies do not keep cars with a mileage of more than 25,000 kilometers in their fleet. If you are offered a car with high mileage, it means you are clearly being set up.

And finally: in Italy, diesel fuel is 30-40% cheaper than gasoline. Therefore, renting a car with a diesel engine will cost you less than a car that requires gasoline.
