First of all, prepare all the documents necessary for traveling abroad by car:
1. Registration certificate for your iron horse, better known as the vehicle registration document. Note that personal information in the registration document must also be written in Latin characters.
2. Driver's license. Check in advance whether you can enter a specific country with your driver's license. With new-style licenses, there should generally be no problems. They are specially adapted for travel abroad.
3. Distinguishing mark of your country on the license plate.
4. Green card – a kind of international insurance policy. The terms are the same as in regular insurance, and you can get such insurance from large insurance companies.
To go traveling in your own car doesn't require much effort, but traveling abroad in a car that is not yours on paper will be a bit more complicated. For example, you have the right to drive a specific car, but it belongs to another person. In this case, you will need a power of attorney from the car owner certifying that you can take the car abroad. Moreover, the power of attorney must have a copy in English.
If you are traveling abroad on a business trip in a company car, you will need, first of all, the car documents. Also a waybill, travel order, and an order for the business trip in the company car.
If your car is still under a loan and the amount has not been paid off, you will need to get a document from the bank certifying that they do not object to your trip abroad in this car. Otherwise, you may simply not be allowed to leave the country.
If you need roof racks for a long trip, the internet offers a wide selection for any car brand. Your car's trunk must contain: a first aid kit, fire extinguisher, reflective vest, spare bulbs, tow rope, a spare wheel ready for installation, and a warning triangle. License plates must meet the generally accepted standards in your country. For example, a plate with the inscription "VITEK" or "KRUTOY" will not be suitable for crossing the border. You will simply be turned back.
Remember that in many countries window tinting is prohibited unless it was applied directly at the manufacturing plant. This must be evidenced by an appropriate document. The presence of a dashcam may also be prohibited, and there should be no cracks on the windshield. This point is especially interesting because there is a risk of getting a huge fine somewhere in Italy or the Czech Republic.
Note that the use of studded tires in winter is permitted in only one country – Finland. In other countries with mountainous terrain, the use of snow chains is recommended.
Fill up the car in advance, as transporting fuel in a canister is not allowed; this is a very strict rule.
Keep in mind that in almost all countries, great attention is paid to the safety of the driver and passengers. Everyone in the car must be buckled up, and talking on a handheld mobile phone while driving is strictly punished. Only the use of a hands-free headset is allowed. And don't even think about throwing trash out the window. Even a discarded cigarette butt can result in you being held liable. And fines abroad are not comparable to ours, so be careful.
If you follow these recommendations, you will not encounter problems on the road. Check the technical condition of your car and calmly set off on your journey.
