Most travelers during a trip to the sea, mountains, or a city tour take many photos or shoot video. Capturing the moment and the accompanying emotions, sharing with friends on social media – this is an integral part of travel for modern people. Smartphones are mainly used for these purposes, connoisseurs of higher quality photos use cameras, and supporters of active recreation use action cameras.
And while portable chargers are usually remembered, the limited memory capacity is often forgotten, resulting in having to make a difficult choice: which photo or video to delete to free up memory for subsequent ones? Sometimes this choice is extremely difficult, especially for owners of DSLR cameras.
Photos take up a lot of space, the memory card capacity is not that large, and on a long trip there will be many photos. However, the solution to this dilemma – whether to delete or not – is simple. Do not forget to take with you on your trip several spare memory cards or any external hard drive onto which you can periodically offload your footage.
What a Beginner Traveler Needs to Know
So, having dealt with the technical aspects, we need to touch on other aspects of travel that should not be forgotten. Preparing for a trip is not difficult, but it is worth saying a little about it for beginner travelers.
Before going to a new place, especially an unfamiliar country, you should familiarize yourself with local customs and, at least superficially, with the laws. What seems normal in our country may be considered a gross violation of morality or law in another. For example, in countries where Islam is practiced, women need to remember local traditions in clothing. Initial familiarization with the culture of the country the traveler is going to should begin at home. It would also be good to learn about public holidays – there may be difficulties with transport or, for example, shopping.
Separately from the first point, it is worth noting the language of the state you are going to. English, of course, is useful to know; it is a means of international communication. But not everywhere it is known, and where it is known, they may fundamentally not respond in it – as, for example, happens in France. Learn a few phrases in the local language that may come in handy. This will facilitate communication with locals and make them favorably disposed towards you. After all, everyone is pleased when a foreigner can say a couple of phrases in your language.
Make copies of your documents and photograph them on your smartphone. It is better to keep the originals in a safe place – in a hotel safe, for example, and while traveling around the city it is better to carry copies with you. You will agree that losing documents far from home is an unpleasant situation.
Plan your trip in advance. This will save you time and give you the opportunity to guarantee seeing what interests you. After all, if you do not plan anything, you can get lost in an unfamiliar place and not really see anything.
Do not take jewelry with you. Wedding rings, if any, can be taken, but everything else is better left at home. After all, this is a trip, not a social event, so practicality should be paramount.
If possible, before the trip, visit a doctor you deem necessary. If, for example, you have a problem with a tooth, a visit to the dentist can save you from troubles that may arise on the road. Medical insurance does not cover treatment of a toothache, and the cost of dental services abroad can be, depending on the country, either very high or of extremely questionable quality. It would also be a good idea to take a first aid kit with you – you may need medications that in another country may be too expensive or only available with a doctor's prescription.
Prepare in advance for the fact that problems may arise. Yes, you do not want to think about problems during a trip, but, alas, they can arise at any moment. For example, your luggage is stolen, documents are lost, money is lost. If you are abroad, find out in advance where the embassy or consulate of your country is located – there are many cases where only they can help you.
Decide in advance where you will stay. There is little pleasure in being left on the street in a foreign city, even if it is very beautiful.
And finally, an obvious recommendation, but many forget about it – try to dress, above all, practically. Comfortable shoes are the key to a good trip, clothing should match the climate, and you should not take too much of it.
