How to Find a Good Tutor?

Children should feel comfortable with a good tutor

Looking for a tutor for myself

Try to search for a tutor through specialized directories, as recommendations from friends and acquaintances or newspaper ads do not always meet expectations. Moreover, directories allow you to find a suitable teacher based on various criteria: age, location, budget, etc.

Determine why you need a tutor. For example, for university admission, it is better to choose a tutor from among the teachers of a specific university who has been working in the admissions committee for many years; applied knowledge will be provided by an industry specialist who knows teaching methods, etc.

During your first meeting with a potential tutor, listen to your feelings: whether you feel comfortable with this person, as a favorable psycho-emotional state during lessons is one of the most important success factors. If something irritates you, it is better to immediately refuse such a tutor, despite all their credentials and attractive prices.

Need a tutor for a child

It is worth noting right away that according to statistics, girls listen better to a male teacher, while boys find it easier to absorb material in the company of a female teacher. This is solely from a psychological perspective of the "son's attraction to mother" and vice versa.

Choose a tutor only through agencies or specialized resources. This will protect you and your child from possible unprofessionalism and "experiments" on the child's psyche.

Your first meeting with the tutor should take place one-on-one. Take a closer look at the tutor, talk to them, tell them about the behavioral and psychological characteristics of your child. Only after that come together with your child.

Avoid people who impose their services on you. You need a tutor who knows how to teach, not how to advertise. It is a good sign if at the first meeting the teacher praises not themselves but shows interest in their future student.

Note: a good tutor will not guarantee university admission. That is too big a responsibility, with external factors also involved. But they will do everything possible to get through this stage with minimal losses.
