Coco Chanel turned the world of high fashion upside down and made millions of people submit to her style
When asked why a person decides to start their own business, the first thought that comes to mind is, of course, that they want to improve their financial situation and become financially independent. But there are also cases where sufficiently wealthy people – happy owners of an extra apartment that can be rented out very profitably, or children of financially successful parents – try to create something of their own, and exclusively on their own, bringing to life ideas for their own business. What makes them do it?
Let us recall the familiar triangle of Abraham Maslow – the famous American psychologist who lived in the mid-20th century and developed the so-called theory of the hierarchy of human needs. According to this theory, a person first takes care of their primary physiological needs – food, shelter, reproduction, and of course some others (this is the 'base' of our triangle).
Next, having all of the above, 'homo sapiens' begins to worry about their safety, about establishing social contacts – in other words, they seek the necessary social circle. One must also not forget about the needs for attention to one's person, respect, and achieving success in one's activities. The top of the triangle is the realization of opportunities and potential, that is, self-actualization.
In principle, this is logical – if a person does not have to worry about their daily bread, they can afford to engage in their favorite activity, which can later bring not only moral satisfaction but also a decent material reward. A person free from the routine of everyday life is able to create their own business and enter into standard contracts.
Fresh business plans also tend to be born when a person is in a new environment or an unexpected situation. For example, Coco Chanel (at that time already a very wealthy lady), feeling cold on a cool day, had the idea to put on a man's sweater. At that time, knitwear for women was only used for underwear. But thanks to that bold idea, we now enjoy jersey garments, and Chanel opened a new clothing line.
