The best way to reach the Cape Verde Islands (the outdated name for Cape Verde) is by plane
Formally, Cape Verde is one of the African states, but the considerable distance from the African coast, almost six hundred kilometers, turns this island archipelago into a place with a special atmosphere. In fact, this state was created artificially.
At the time of the discovery of the archipelago by Portuguese navigators (1446), there was no indigenous population on the islands. In 1462, the Portuguese founded the city of Ribeira Grande here. Due to the direction of sea currents, this city became a convenient base for replenishing supplies for ships sailing from Portugal to Brazil (a Portuguese colony). The city's population consisted of colonists and native Africans brought here as labor force.
Gradually the city's importance declined. In 1974, Cape Verde gained independence from Portugal. Today, the remains of Ribeira Grande, under the name Cidade Velha (old city), are included in the UNESCO World Heritage List as the first outpost built by European colonizers in a tropical climate.
As for transportation, the cost of air tickets from Russia to Cape Verde consists of two parts. The first part is a flight from Moscow to Lisbon (the capital of Portugal). The second part is a flight from Lisbon to Sal Island, where the main international airport of Cape Verde is located.
On Sal Island, which has excellent beaches, the tourist infrastructure is best developed, so tourists who prefer beach holidays most often vacation on this island. But the other islands of the archipelago also have much of interest.
For example, the mysterious rock Rotcha Scribida baffles researchers. So far, it has not been possible to decipher the meaning of the inscriptions left on this rock, apparently by some ancient navigators. On the island of São Vicente is the cultural capital of Cape Verde, the city of Mindelo. In local bars you can listen to live music, and in shops you can buy various national souvenirs. Fans of mountain tourism can climb a volcano located on the island of Fogo (2830 meters).
If you are traveling independently, it makes sense to book your flights with a one-day gap. When going to Cape Verde, you can quite well spend one day on an excursion or walks around Lisbon as an 'add-on'.
