Three out of four foreigners working in Poland are citizens of Ukraine
Representative of the Polish Social Insurance Institution Wojciech Andrusewicz notes: 'So far, a total of one and a half million foreigners have made contributions to our social security system. The accounts of all these individuals held 13 billion zlotys (over 3 billion euros) in contributions.'
As Polskie Radio notes, Poland is chosen for work and residence mainly by citizens of countries located east of the Polish border. Three out of four foreigners are citizens of Ukraine. In addition, citizens of Belarus, Vietnam, Moldova, and Russia often work in Poland.
More than half of the foreigners employed in Poland work under an employment contract. Three percent run their own businesses. Over 60 percent of foreign workers are primarily men under the age of 49.
This January, the number of insured foreigners fell by 20 percent, but the reasons for the decline are not yet known.
