If a foreigner does not need to pay for accommodation in Latvia, he must have 10 lats for each day of stay in the country. If it is necessary to pay for housing, then 30 lats are required. For Ukrainians, in terms of the national currency, this amounts to from 87 to 260 hryvnias per day. The amount may be reduced in the event of a foreigner's illness, illness or death of his close relatives, and also if the entry and stay of the foreigner in the country are related to family reunification and "there are no grounds to believe that he will become a burden on the social assistance system".
Confirmation of the availability of financial resources may be traveler's checks, cash in lats or in convertible currency, a bank certificate of the account status. Documents confirming the availability of the necessary financial resources are valid for three months from the date of their issuance. A private individual or enterprise residing in Latvia may also undertake the maintenance of a foreigner.
These rules do not apply, in particular, to citizens of the European Union and the European Economic Area, members of their families, holders of diplomatic or service passports.
