Weekend tours are an ideal opportunity to go somewhere not far, to a place that does not require long, thorough study. If you like it, you can go there more often and relax. If you have three days off (as happens when holidays coincide with weekends), it is time to visit neighboring cities. For example, Kharkiv.
Kharkiv is an amazing city. It is commonly believed that industrial cities are poorly suited for tourism, but that is only if you do not know what and how to look at. The first attraction of Kharkiv can be seen right on the square in front of the city station – it is a color-music fountain. In the evening, when it is illuminated and the whole square sparkles with lights, you will witness a truly spectacular show that it would be a pity to miss.
Another famous fountain of Kharkiv – Kaskad – is located in Shevchenko Park. And in Gorky Park, a long, more than a kilometer cable car ride awaits you to the Pavlovo Pole district. You will get almost 20 minutes of stunning views from above.
And further on there is the Children's Railway, once known to the entire USSR. The length of the railway is 3.6 km, it connects the Forest Park and Gorky Park.
If you are an enthusiast of architecture and churches, do not forget the opportunity to see three magnificent cathedrals in one place. This is the Annunciation Cathedral. By the way, right behind it, a little higher, is the Assumption Cathedral – the pride of the city. Right there, across the park, is the Intercession Cathedral. Beautiful view, purity and brightness of colors, golden domes – everything here evokes thoughts of piety and peace.
If you are interested in Catholicism, then take a look at Gogol Street, there is a beautiful, elegant small church (next to it is the A.S. Pushkin Theater, which is also worth seeing).
The ancient part of the city is at the beginning of Sumskaya Street. Here there is an amazing thing – a giant Thermometer covering an entire building, a tank and other sights. Also beautiful in Kharkiv is the embankment with the Lovers' Staircase, where you can just walk calmly and unhurriedly.
There are a huge number of museums in the city, including the Historical Museum, Museum of Nature, Maritime Museum, Literary Museum, Art Museum, Holocaust Museum, Museum of World Sexual Sculptures, Museum of Plumbing and Ceramic Tiles, and many others. You will love this simple, open and very beautiful city and will return here again and again, perhaps already in the company of your friends.
