The main efforts were focused on developing the contractual and legal framework and concluding international agreements on cooperation in the field of tourism. Implementing the provisions of these agreements, interdepartmental working groups on tourism were created, and their meetings were regularly held “to analyze and resolve current problems of bilateral cooperation, determine ways to intensify tourist exchanges.” In particular, the Ukrainian-Turkish joint commission on cooperation in the field of tourism is currently operating, as is the mixed Ukrainian-Polish commission on tourism issues; relations in the field of tourism are fruitfully developing within the framework of intergovernmental Ukrainian-Uzbek, Ukrainian-Greek, Ukrainian-Cuban, Ukrainian-Austrian, Ukrainian-Bavarian, Ukrainian-German, Ukrainian-Slovak, Ukrainian-Slovenian, Ukrainian-Latvian, Ukrainian-Vietnamese, Ukrainian-Russian, Ukrainian-Hungarian joint commissions.
In October 1997, at the 12th session of the General Assembly of the World Tourism Organization (WTO) in Istanbul, Ukraine became a full member of this organization. And two years later, in September 1999, at the 13th session in Santiago, Ukraine was elected to the WTO Executive Council. All this, of course, could not but have a positive impact, including on UITT.
A fateful event took place in 1999: the annual International Tourism Salon “Ukraine” - the largest exhibition in our country - was granted the status of an event held under the auspices of the World Tourism Organization with the participation of its representatives and the use of its symbolism, as well as with the inclusion of the salon in the WTO Calendar of International Tourism Events.
On May 22, 2000, the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Ukraine to the Kingdom of Spain and the Principality of Andorra presented to the WTO Secretary-General F. Frangialli credentials, which provided for the assignment to him by decree of the President of Ukraine of the powers of the permanent representative of Ukraine to the World Tourism Organization.
And in conclusion: the recently adopted Law of Ukraine “On Tourism” and the Tourism Development Program in Ukraine until 2005 provide for the opening of representative offices of the State Committee for Tourism in Ukraine and abroad.
