Vacationers in Sudak can expect not only the beautiful sea, but also the famous historical monuments.
Sudak has long been known far beyond the borders of Ukraine. Passing by this city, I never thought I would stop there. An ordinary city, as it seemed to me at first. However, driving deeper into the city, I realized that this was exactly what I had been looking for so long and painfully. And a seaside vacation will happen.
First of all – housing prices. It is known that in Ukraine they are initially lower than in Russia. But still, I did not expect to find a room for two with a shower, TV and all amenities not far from the sea for 800 rubles/day. We decided to stick with this economical option.
After resting for a day, we decided to explore the city. In the very center is the ancient Genoese fortress. That's where we went. You know, it's indescribable beauty! You stand on the high Maiden Tower, and a step away from you is a cliff, rocks and the endless blue sea. Seeing this makes your heart skip a beat. Of course, it's better to hire a guide, because the history of this architectural monument is very interesting. The fortress is located on a cone-shaped coral reef, so it's better to be patient to crawl up the hill.
The ancient temple on the territory of the fortress amazes with its fate, which scientists can only guess about. It is assumed that initially it was a mosque built by the Turks. After that, it was converted into an Orthodox church, and only then the local residents, the Genoese, rebuilt it into a Catholic church. When the Turks captured Sudak, the church again turned into a mosque. And after the annexation of Crimea to Russia, there was an Orthodox military church, a German Lutheran church, an Armenian Catholic church. But still, it's worth returning to Sudak itself...
There are two main beaches in the city: rocky and sandy. Where to go – you choose, but it's worth considering that the rocky beach is better to go if you are a fan of rock climbing. On this beach you can not only enjoy swimming in the sea, but also engage in extreme sports. Those who like to blissfully lie in the sun should head to the sandy beach. Usually it is not crowded, but it depends on luck.
Along the way, you will walk through the territory of a large sanatorium. There is a tennis court, a football field and other sports grounds. You can play secretly from the guard, they usually don't watch. There is a very good embankment in the city where you can walk in the evening. In general, all conditions are created to have a great rest from the city hustle. I also recommend taking a sea excursion by boat along the bays of Sudak and nearby villages. The Robber's Bay and the Royal Bay amaze with their beauty.
Also not far from Sudak is Cape Meganom, the so-called 'Crimean mystery'. Adventure lovers simply must visit this place. Meganom has one secret that attracts visitors like a magnet. Many tourists who have been to this cape say that they see some kind of ghost ship. According to the legends of the ancient Greeks, it is here that the entrance to the kingdom of the dead – Hades – is located. It is said that on Cape Meganom, Odysseus met the one-eyed Cyclops, and through the underground caves of Karadag, which are visible during low tide, he descended into the kingdom of Hades.
What is remarkable about this city is its location relative to other resorts of Crimea. One of them is the village of Novy Svet. Your vacation cannot be considered completely successful if you do not visit there. First of all, it is worth walking along the Golitsyn Trail, the total length of which is about 6 km. Of course, this path is not easy, because it runs along a narrow path in the rocks. You will be able to see with your own eyes the places that you already saw during the sea excursion. For example, the Shalyapin Grotto, in which, according to legends, the brilliant Russian singer performed his works. There also used to be a wine cellar.
Many rocks and crystal clear water contribute to the abundance of divers in these places, those who wish can simply swim. Further to the west there are two more bays, which are separated by Cape Kapchik. The first is the Blue Bay, another name is the Robber's Bay. The next bay is the Light Blue Bay. Here is the famous Royal Beach.
