Burma – land of pagodas
This country was able to form its own unique way of life, its traditions and culture over many centuries. It opened its doors to tourists quite late – only at the end of the 20th century. Main cities and tourist centers of Burma
Naypyidaw – the current (since 2006) capital of Burma, the third most populous city in the country. It is here that most of the pagodas are located, the main one being the Uppatasanti Pagoda, construction of which ended relatively recently, in 2009. Like all pagodas, it is painted in the traditional gold color. Other attractions of the capital include giant sculptures of royalty. On the outskirts of the city there is a water park with a equipped beach and slides. Also on the outskirts of Naypyidaw is the national zoo (the largest in the country).
The former Burmese capital (1948-2005) – Yangon, which is also called the garden city. There is very beautiful nature, many ponds and lakes that are simply drowning in greenery. All parks and squares of the city are very well-groomed. The main attraction of Yangon is the Shwedagon Pagoda, which according to legend was built 2500 years ago. No less interesting for tourists are other pagodas of the city – Sule, Kyauk Htat Gyi (a 71-meter-long Buddha statue). The third in our list – Bagan, – one of the most interesting historical places in Asia. On an area of just over 40 sq. km, thousands of ancient temples and pagodas are perfectly preserved, which are architecturally different from each other. Many temples have entire underground galleries. All this beauty was created over millennia, with over 40 thousand monks and the same number of imported slaves working on it. Mandalay – the second largest city, one of the ancient capitals of Burma, founded in 1857 by the Burmese king Mindon Min. The heart of the city is the eponymous hill, on which the king's residence is located, surrounded on all sides by pagodas and other religious buildings. Stopping in Mandalay, be sure to visit the weaving and silk-spinning workshops, the local market, and Inle Lake.
