Gelendzhik is a city by the sea
Gelendzhik was founded as a fortress in 1831, but its history begins in the 4th century BC, when it was known to sailors as the trading port of Torik. The Adyghe people who settled in this area called it "khulʺyzhʺyy" - a small pasture. However, there is another, less substantiated but more romantic assumption that the name of the area comes from the Turkic "gelend-zhik" - white bride. Honestly, this name suits Gelendzhik better – the city is simply buried in greenery and flowers. In spring, when nature awakens, chestnuts, magnolias, and cherry trees begin to bloom – the city is covered with white petals and truly becomes like a bride in a snow-white veil.
In 1837, Nicholas I came to Gelendzhik with his entourage and acknowledged that the climate is beneficial, the sea is wonderful, and was pleased with the troop review, for which he had actually arrived. But only in 1900 was the first private sanatorium built in the city, and travelers began to come here to improve their health and enjoy sea bathing.
Now Gelendzhik is one of the most famous and popular resort cities in Russia. Its beaches stretch for 78 kilometers from Cape Penoy of the Tsemess Bay to the Pial Bay. The resort zone also includes suburban settlements: Divnomorskoye, Dzhankhot, Praskoveyevka, Beta, Arkhipo-Osipovka. For the past several years, Gelendzhik has been recognized as the best resort city on the Black Sea coast, ahead of Sochi and Anapa.
What makes a vacation on the Black Sea in Gelendzhik so attractive? First of all, the mild climate: not as humid as in Sochi, and not as dry as in Anapa. Second, no less important but very appealing condition - reasonable prices for tourist infrastructure services. And third, the leisure infrastructure itself. In recent years, a huge number of private mini-hotels have been built, offering vacationers a full range of services, amenities, and comfort. Hotels and boarding houses built earlier have been renovated and offer a high level of service. Gelendzhik's sanatoriums have preserved old traditions and offer highly professional medical care. Currently, up to 50 thousand people can vacation in Gelendzhik at the same time!
The resort season officially opens on the first Sunday of June. It has already become a tradition to hold a colorful show on the embankment and in the city center on this day. It must be said that the local authorities do not skimp on celebrating such an event: concerts, processions, masquerades, fireworks... The city's guests who participate in such a show remember this holiday for a long time.
Some may find it strange, but everything that is offered to tourists at Turkish resorts - scooters, inflatable "bananas," water skis, parachutes, water parks – is available in Gelendzhik, and not for such exorbitant money! A huge number of restaurants, bars, and cafes open with the start of the season on the embankment, and there is room for everyone. And Gelendzhik wine, which locals are happy to treat guests to, leaves no one indifferent.
Magnificent nature, relict juniper groves, rocks, waterfalls, parks, dolmens - there is plenty to see in Gelendzhik for both adults and children.
In short, if you book tours to Gelendzhik, an excellent tan, a lot of pleasure, and a surge of energy are guaranteed until your next vacation, and you will definitely come to Gelendzhik again!
