Immigrants living in Germany sent record amounts to their home countries
As "Russkaya Germaniya" writes, most of the money traditionally went to Turkey – about 800 million euros. 67 million euros were transferred to Syria (in 2015 – 18 million).
In 2016, 280,000 immigrants arrived in Germany, about three times less than a year earlier (890,000). The country spent 21.7 billion euros on refugee needs in 2016. The government expects GDP growth of 0.5% for the year due to the impact of the influx of new labor on the economy.
The World Bank estimates the number of immigrants worldwide at 250 million people. In Germany, as of the end of 2016, 10 million foreigners lived. This figure increased by 23% compared to 2014 data. Most of them (about 5.8 million) came from outside the European Union, including more than a million refugees.
Among the newcomers, there are more men than women (54% and 46%). The average age of an immigrant is 37 years. Among the newcomers, the most are citizens of Turkey, Syria and Poland.
