As a rule, due to new security measures, only liquids and drinks purchased at the Duty Free of a given airport can be taken on board, while exactly the same liquids purchased at the airport of initial departure are usually confiscated during the second security check during a transfer. Now airports are offered to eliminate the second check during transfers. In addition, passengers departing from countries where security checks meet European Union requirements (so far only one such country – Singapore) will be exempt from the re-check.
Restructuring airports to introduce the new system may take up to two years. It represents a significant relief for transfer passengers, who will be able to purchase goods at the Duty Free shops of European Union airports and some other countries without fear of them being confiscated during a transfer. The European Union also intends to initiate a revision of the ban on carrying liquids in hand luggage itself as ineffective, but this issue will not be considered before summer.
