Over a weekend in Saint Petersburg, you can only see a small fraction of the local attractions.
To use every minute of your weekend for relaxation and enjoyment, without wasting precious time and energy on searching for a hotel, it is best to book a hotel in Saint Petersburg in advance. As for pastime, the best choice would be walking tours in the central part of the city. Start your promenade from the Gostiny Dvor metro station. You can visit the Bolshoi Gostiny Dvor, walk along Nevsky Prospekt, see the Armenian Church, and have a snack of pancakes at the Chaynaya Lozhka (Teaspoon). Look at the Duma Tower and the Church of St. Catherine, the Kazan Cathedral and the Church of the Ascension of Christ.
While traveling near the Mikhailovsky Palace, drop by the Mikhailovsky Park. Nearby there is a pier. Here you can take a river tram excursion along the Neva and other canals of St. Petersburg.
Be sure to visit the former royal residence of the Russian Empire – the Winter Palace on Palace Square.
In the evening, you can have dinner at a restaurant and visit one of the many entertainment clubs in the city.
On the second day, take a tour to Vasilyevsky Island. Here you can see St. Andrew's Cathedral and the Menshikov Palace, the Kunstkamera and Peter and Paul Cathedral, take a photo 'on your knees' by Peter the Great, have lunch at one of the cozy cafes and restaurants. After going to the pier of Petrovskaya Embankment, you will see the famous cruiser 'Aurora'. Then you can return to Trinity Square and have dinner at a wonderful restaurant in St. Petersburg.
