A paid license for begging has been introduced in a Swedish city
The fee for issuing such a document is 250 Swedish kronor (25 euros) per month. The applicant must confirm the legality of their stay in the country and have a social security number.
According to Vinegret.cz, the new rules came into force on August 1. However, in the days since, the police have not received a single request for a permit.
"We are bureaucratizing the process to make it as difficult as possible," said Jimmy Jansson, a representative of the city administration.
Begging is not prohibited at the state level in Sweden. Municipalities regulate this issue at their discretion.
It is worth noting that in February 2018, in the Swedish city of Uppsala, police detained a local beggar for aggressive behavior. During a search, 6 million kronor (over $700,000) were found in his backpack. The man was able to explain the origin of the money, and the judge ordered it returned.
