As the newspaper "El País" writes, Spain spent about 19 million euros on deporting 92,500 migrants last year. Recently, charter flights with deported immigrants leave Spain every week, mainly to Romania, Colombia, and Nigeria. However, an even bigger problem is caused by the fact that such activities require a large number of people, which means many Spanish police officers have to be diverted from their main work of protecting citizens.
Under the terms of the agreements and in accordance with human rights standards, each deported immigrant must be accompanied by two specially trained police officers. In addition, a reserve group of 12-15 people must be on board in case of a conflict situation on the plane. This increased need for security is due to the fact that police officers are not allowed to carry weapons on board, except batons, and it is forbidden to handcuff deportees, except for especially dangerous criminals. To solve this problem more effectively, the Spanish Interior Ministry plans to create a special brigade within the National Police in the near future that will deal exclusively with this matter.
