Foreign citizens planning to attend the Olympics are advised that a ticket to sporting events does not guarantee the holder a visa. According to this code, individuals suspected of terrorist activities, as well as people with contagious diseases, will not be allowed into the country. Foreigners attempting to bring in weapons or items that imitate them, uniforms, explosives, drugs, or poisons will also not be allowed into China.
In addition, the rules require foreign citizens who do not plan to stay in hotels or other places specially designated for receiving Olympic guests during their visit to the Games to register with the police within 24 hours of arrival. This rule applies to those who plan to stay in cities. Those who stay with private individuals living in rural areas must report to a police station within 72 hours. Tourists are also prohibited from sleeping in parks or under bridges.
The rules prohibit printed materials, CDs, and any other media whose content harms Chinese society, the country's economy, and culture. Slogans and banners of political or religious content were also deemed unacceptable by the Olympic organizers. Those wishing to hold a rally, parade, or protest must apply to the police for permission. According to analysts, the Chinese authorities hope in this way to prevent possible demonstrations by supporters of Tibetan independence.
As Lenta.ru notes, the list of rules for foreigners also contains some rather specific restrictions. For example, Olympic guests are allowed to bring only one cat or dog with them.
