Today you can get a good education by studying remotely
Distance learning is currently gaining popularity, increasingly replacing traditional ways of obtaining higher education. Distance learning has its advantages, which are quite difficult to achieve if you prefer full-time or correspondence learning. Yes, correspondence learning is convenient – if you choose it, you don't need to be constantly at the educational institution (as with distance learning). However, during the exam session, you need to travel, which in current conditions is both very costly and rather inconvenient. In addition, exam sessions often fall during the 'hottest' reporting periods full of work activities: for example, the winter session – before or after the New Year holidays, and the summer session, coinciding with the semi-annual reporting period and preparation for the holiday season.
Another reasonable explanation for the ever-increasing popularity of distance learning is that education can be obtained without interrupting work. Employers who want to improve an employee's qualifications and, as the best option, send him on a distance professional development course pay special attention to this factor. First of all, during the reporting periods mentioned above, the employee is at his workplace and engaged in his business duties. Finally, the organization or company budget does not spend money on paying for the employee's travel, travel allowances, and also accommodation and other things. Moreover, the effectiveness of acquired skills is absolutely no worse than those obtained, say, in courses or in classical educational institutions.
Additionally, it is possible to study remotely while simultaneously attending a standard educational institution, thereby obtaining two diplomas on your own.
However, distance learning (or more precisely, a diploma obtained through such learning) has one major drawback. Employers, especially in provincial Russian cities, do not take the aforementioned diplomas seriously at all, believing that only the results of full-time or correspondence learning are a serious indicator of the level of professional qualification of a young employee – a candidate for a position.
But, unfortunately, the level of corruption in educational institutions of any level in Russia suggests the opposite. And it is probably even possible to buy a higher education diploma without ever stepping foot in a university (take note, dear employers!). Moreover, there are very few truly competent, well-versed young specialists who have recently graduated from universities. Distance education is chosen by individuals who value their freedom and choose to acquire a much larger amount of knowledge than the curriculum provides. Everyone knows that self-education is the best and most convenient way to learn something.
Today, the situation, along with the nationwide internetization of our Motherland, is improving. That is why distance education is winning its place.
