History of the emergence of distance education
The distance learning department of UNIK has existed for more than ten years. Constantly in dynamics of development and improvement, this university has accumulated considerable experience in providing distance learning opportunities. It was the first in Russia to make it possible to obtain higher humanitarian education remotely. Its students are from more than 160 cities of Russia, the CIS and far abroad countries. The teaching is conducted by instructors from leading Moscow universities.
For the first time in Russia, distance learning methods appeared as early as the end of the 19th century and were associated with the development of postal communication. "Correspondence learning" allowed students to exchange materials with teachers by mail. Later, telephone and telegraph were added to postal communication. The next stage, which allowed to significantly increase the audience of learners, was the advent of radio and television. And in 1969, the first university of distance education appeared.
