Deutsche Welle to Train Journalists
Starting December 1, the German media company Deutsche Welle<\/a> is accepting applications for the multimedia journalism training program DW Journalism Traineeship (German: DW-Volontariat). This is a special form of journalist training in Germany that includes not only lectures and seminars but also internships in various editorial offices and DW bureaus.<\/p>
The DW-Volontariat in English and German lasts 18 months and takes place in two German cities – Bonn and Berlin. Trainees are trained in three areas simultaneously: television, radio, and online journalism. Throughout the internship, program participants receive a salary.<\/p>
The DW traineeship program includes everything a professional needs: from learning the craft of a TV presenter to master classes in multimedia storytelling, working in social media, and journalistic investigations.<\/p>
After each theoretical part, future journalists undergo an internship in one of the editorial offices in Bonn and Berlin or go to work at a correspondent office in Washington, Moscow, or Brussels. At the end of the training, trainees work on their own projects. Graduates of the program have a chance to get a job at the media company Deutsche Welle.<\/p>
Candidates must already have a degree in higher or professional education. Even if you graduated from a natural science or economics faculty, but know why you want to become a journalist, feel free to apply!<\/p>
The second requirement is work experience in journalism. A portfolio with publications and certificates can be uploaded via the online portal. Proficiency in one of the thirty languages of the editorial office is another mandatory condition for the Deutsche Welle traineeship. Russian-speaking candidates are especially in demand, as well as speakers of Turkish, Persian, Swahili, and Hausa. In addition, journalists must have a good command of English and German.<\/p>
