One way or another, many of us eventually come to the conclusion that it would be good to master English. And of course, questions arise: where to start and how to continue.
First of all, you need to give your desire to study English a certain form, make your aspiration more tangible. To do this, you need to clearly understand for what purpose you will learn English, what these knowledge will ultimately give you, and what opportunities will open up. This way you will build a strong motivation system that will help you go through all stages of learning to the logical end, rather than quitting after a couple of dozen lessons.
Then you should decide what method you will use to learn English. You can study on your own using self-study guides and training programs, you can enroll in courses, or you can take lessons with a tutor. Moreover, with a tutor you can study either at home or remotely – for example, via Skype.
Self-study will save you money, but not time. The path of self-preparation is thorny and long. If you choose it, try to evenly allocate time for training all key skills, paying attention to English grammar, vocabulary, speaking practice, listening, and writing. This way your knowledge of English will not be "one-sided". In addition, a high level of self-discipline is required.
Lessons with a teacher (in a group or individually) are noticeably easier, as the teacher "spoon-feeds" everything for you and presents knowledge in a "ready-made form".
After choosing a method, the actual learning process begins. It is important to study regularly and methodically. In addition to working with the textbook, be sure to include entertainment elements in your lessons, such as watching interesting movies in English with subtitles, reading books and magazines, and listening to British radio stations. This will make lessons more engaging, varied, and interesting.
Don't forget to constantly expand your vocabulary. In general, it is better to study English vocabulary with examples of using new words in specific sentences. In context, new words will be memorized much faster.
And of course, try to apply the acquired knowledge in practice as much as possible. After all, we learn foreign languages to speak them later. To practice speaking skills, you can look for a conversation partner in your immediate environment or on language social network sites on the internet. However, the best option still remains immersion in the language environment, that is, a trip to an English-speaking country.
