Of the many hundreds of varieties of this amazing plant, bamboo is used in several types:
* Frost-resistant. The plant, like its other relatives, thrives best at temperatures of 18-25 degrees Celsius, but unlike other types of bamboo, it can withstand frosts of central Russia. It grows up to 3-6 meters, reaching up to 60 mm in diameter;
* Abkhazian. Outwardly very attractive, but its stems are more prone to cracking in dry rooms than stems of other species. The halves of stems and blockhouse do not crack due to the absence of internal stresses; moreover, to avoid cracking of stems, bamboo should be harvested only in winter when there is no vegetation and sap flow. Nevertheless, it is not recommended to use it as a stem because with a diameter of up to 100 mm, the stem wall thickness is no more than 4 mm;
* Laotian. The best bamboo in the world with a small stem diameter (10-40 mm). Extremely straight, with almost no taper, uniform color at 4-meter length;
* Vietnamese. Only stained bamboo is imported; its appearance is pale, plain. Its stems require sanding followed by impregnation or varnishing. This bamboo is thick-walled, does not split during machining, and nails can be driven into it. Its taper is minimal, and the diameter can reach 170 mm. Stem cracking is possible, but it occurs in thin and imperceptible cracks;
* Philippine. Its appearance is more attractive, but the stems have considerable taper, curvature, and frequent nodes. Cracking within reasonable limits;
* Panamanian. It has an original spotted dark coloring, so it is called "black". The stem walls are quite thick, nodes are frequent, taper is small, diameter reaches 140 mm. Cracking occurs. However, it is less compared to Abkhazian.
So, we see that the properties of bamboo are different and, accordingly, its price varies with quality. Now, when planning to buy bamboo, you will be guided by knowledge of its properties.
By the way, besides the species of the plant, you also need to consider the methods of its processing: staining (holding stems in a flooded state), smoking, sun drying with organic compounds, autoclaving, etching or bleaching, vacuum oven drying, microwave drying, etc.
In conclusion, we note that chemicals are extremely rarely used in the cultivation and processing of bamboo, which makes this material perhaps the most environmentally friendly in the world.
