To avoid losing your luggage, follow these simple recommendations
Of course, airlines are responsible for the loss of a passenger's belongings. Usually, if such an incident occurs, they try to deliver the lost luggage on the next flight, and then a courier brings it to the client's home. But how many unpleasant hours and nerves does it all cost?
How to try to avoid such a situation:
1. Do not transport valuable items, documents, or anything that is very dear to you as a memory, as well as money and jewelry, in your luggage. It is better to take all this with you as carry-on luggage.
If you still decide to put these items in your luggage, take care of their insurance in addition to the standard type of insurance during flights.
2. Make sure that airline employees attach baggage tags to one handle of the bag rather than two – this way they are less likely to tear off. Buy suitcases with transparent windows on the side where you can insert a tag with your personal information.
3. Leave exactly the same tag with your last name and exact itinerary inside the suitcase in a side pocket, or on top of your belongings. This way you will get your luggage back faster in case of loss.
4. Make sure that all zippers on your suitcases are working, and try not to overstuff them, otherwise they may fall apart during transport from the terminal to the plane.
5. Write down for yourself a list of at least 4-5 items in each suitcase or travel bag. In case of loss, it will be much easier to 'identify' your luggage because many similar suitcases are produced nowadays, and passengers sometimes forget where and what they packed.
6. If possible, attach colored elastic straps to your suitcases so that they stand out from the crowd and can be easily recognized.
7. When checking in your luggage, check that the correct tag has been attached to it, and that it won't be unloaded early during transit stops.
8. Check that you have received the baggage claim stubs after checking in, and put them in a place where you won't lose them.
9. Check in for your flight in advance, register your ticket, specifying your baggage details.
10. If your luggage still hasn't arrived with you, do not rush to leave the airport. Find the duty baggage agent and complete all necessary documents. Your lost luggage will be assigned a special tracing code. Take the phone numbers where you can call for search results.
11. You should know that in case of loss of a passenger's luggage, the airline must provide them with all necessary items (toothbrush, toothpaste, razor and other hygiene products, as well as the most essential items) while they wait for their luggage.
